Gateway to India Committee - raising funds for Community Chest of HK

Mira Mahtani, David Harilela, Notan Tolani and Larry Parmanand are the founders of Indian Community Group, which was formed to amalgamate 32 separate Indian groups & Associations in HK. Their aim is to raise funds for charity and to help the underprivileged in HK provide disaster relief as and when it occurs anywhere in the world.

HK$ 3.8 million has been donated to charities between 2004-2008. Below we list past projects.

 

1. Community Chest of Hong Kong – Dec 2004  
4th Dec 2004 - Our first project was to collect funds for the Community Chest of Hong Kong, by organizing a fund raising ball for the Community Chest of HK by the Indian Community Group - Gateway to India’. This Ball raised over $2 Million dollars benefiting over 1,000,000 needy through the Community Chests 141 member agencies. Our chief     guest that evening was the Hon. Donald Tsang.

 

2. Tsunami Relief- 2005
On Jan 29, 2005 – HK$ 1.2million was raised and given to:
- Oxfam – Water & Sanitation Project (Sri Lanka & Thailand)
- The Ramkrishna Mission to rebuild the Orphanage in the Andaman Islands
- The Samvit Sagar Trust – for work in Chennai(India)

 

3. The Sichuan Earthquake China – 2008
HK $582,320 was raised by the Indian Community Group and was given to
“Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in the HKSAR” on 12 June 2008.
